TOM RUSH
Saturday, October 10 -- 8:00 PM
Tom Rush was among the crowd of performers for whom the term "singer-songwriter" was originally coined. He was a mainstay in the folk movement of the '60s, playing and recording songs by then-unknown writers such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor.
While studying at Harvard, Rush took a weekly stint at Boston's folk hotspot Club 47, where he honed his ability to tell stories — both of his own and by others. He'd released two albums by the time he graduated.
Rush just released What I Know, his first studio album in 35 years, as a follow-up to two live releases. His 2003 live album, Trolling for Owls, included his song "Remember?" which became an Internet video hit, logging more than three million views online. The Very Best of Tom Rush: No Regrets covers Rush's career from 1962 to the present, and includes a version of "River Song," a tune performed here in this live Mountain Stage set. The set closes with a choice cover in "Drift Away," with Rush taking a somber, contemplative approach to the widely recorded hit.

KELLER WILLIAMS
Sunday, October 11 -- 8:00 PM
Williams is considered by some but not by himself, to be a master of the acoustic guitar, known for his ability to solo over layers of spontaneously created loops. He is a generous performer who plays down to earth acoustic music that defies any effort to find a convenient pigeonhole.
On stage, Williams exudes a restless yet mellow energy. Barefoot he dances in place, alternately spinning out long solo lines and bouncing chord clusters that draw listeners and dancers into his own private world of rhythm and melody. The songs flow like rivers, full of flickering, kaleidoscopic images revealing new shapes, colors and meanings with every listen.
Much has been made of Williams impressive array of stage gear. His willing to go on at length about each instrument and the complexities of creating loops and samples in real time, with nothing being pre-recorded. But isnt into technology for its own sake. Williams explains, My style evolved organically out of hours and hours of being on stage with one guitar and one mic.

THE GRASCALS
Saturday, October 17 -- 8:00 PM
Already among the most beloved and acclaimed of contemporary bluegrass groups, The Grascals are the 2007 International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainers of the Year, first earning the top honor in 2006, only one year after being named Emerging Artist of the Year and winning Song of the Year for “Me and John and Paul.” Their trademark blend of traditional bluegrass and classic country with more modern elements, delivered with vocal and instrumental intensity and virtuosity, earned them Grammy nominations for their first two critically-acclaimed releases—The Grascals and Long List of Heartaches. Timely and timeless, The Grascals’ music is entirely relevant to the here and now, yet based on a deeply-seeded knowledge of and admiration for the music’s founding fathers.
The Grascals began their career in 2004, when they recorded their debut album and were invited by Dolly Parton to open her fall tour. They opened additional dates for her in 2005, including her sold-out concert at Radio City Music Hall, and they have also shared the stage with Brooks & Dunn, Dierks Bentley, Patty Loveless, Mac Wiseman, J. D. Crowe, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, Steve Wariner, Vince Gill, the Jordanaires and many others. They are proud to make regular guest appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and have also appeared on Opry Live, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and the TV Guide Channel.
In addition to the IBMA awards, The Grascals won the 2008 SPBGMA Bluegrass Awards for Instrumental Group of the Year (for the third consecutive year), Bluegrass Band of the Year (for the second consecutive year) and Mandolin Player of the Year (Danny Roberts’ second win in three years). In 2006 the group also took home Album of the Year for their self-titled debut and Song of the Year for “Me and John and Paul.” The group earned a Dove Award nomination in 2007 for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year for “Did You Forget God Today,” featuring the Jordanaires, which is included on Long List of Heartaches.
