WILL HOGE
Friday, November 20 -- 8:00 PM
With his muscular, straightforward American rock, Nashville artist Will Hoge has garnered frequent comparisons to such heartland giants as Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. The singer/songwriter was raised in Franklin, TN, a rural Nashville suburb, and eventually left town to study history at Western Kentucky University. Music drew him back home, however, and he relocated to Nashville to assemble a band that included former Georgia Satellite Dan Baird on guitar. Hoge then cut his teeth on the Southern bar circuit and issued a live release, 1999's All Night Long, before inking a deal with Atlantic Records. With the label's backing, he entered Memphis' famed Ardent Studios and recorded his official debut, Carousel, alongside engineer John Hampton (the Replacements, Gin Blossoms). The album was released in 2000, and Blackbird on a Lonely Wire followed in 2003 (albeit without Baird, who left due to the band's demanding tour schedule). Unfortunately, record sales were slim, and Hoge found himself receiving minimal attention from his label. Requesting release from his contract, Hoge was made a free agent.
Following his departure from the Atlantic roster, Hoge augmented a relentless tour schedule with a number of independent releases, from live albums and brief EPs to a full-fledged studio effort (2006's The Man Who Killed Love). Rykodisc took note of Hoge's consistent work -- particularly his 200-plus shows per year -- and signed the artist. Draw the Curtains, Hoge's fourth studio album and first disc for Rykodisc, was released in October 2006, followed by -- what else? -- an aggressive fall tour. JONATHAN EDWARDS
and Brewer & Shipley
Saturday, November 21 -- 8:00 PM
The word "legend" is often used to describe veteran folk/rocker Jonathan Edwards, whose 1971 million-selling song "Sunshine" ("go away today...") brought him instant fame. He was born in Minnesota and detoured into blues and rock before realizing he was hooked on folk music. During his 37-year career he has recorded 15 albums, performed throughout North America and in Holland, and collaborated with artists such as Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett, Maura O'Connell, Christine Lavin and Cheryl Wheeler. His 1987 children's album, LITTLE HANDS, was selected by the National Library Association as a "Notable Children's Recording."
His varied career has included theater, commercials, record production, and 2 movie soundtracks. He narrated and performed in the Media Artists series “Cruising America's Waterways”, which started airing on PBS-TV stations in 2001. "Sunshine" can be heard in the 2004 Will Ferrell movie, "Anchorman" and on a recent Jeep commercial. His latest CD, “Rollin’ Along, Live in Holland,” was released in summer of 2008, and he spent most of the summer playing large amphitheaters from coast to coast with the Hippiefest tour.

Recognized as one of the most successful folk rock duos of the 70's, Brewer & Shipley have remained true to their original form throughout 3 decades.
Although best known for their Top 10 signature song, "One Toke Over The Line" which permanently etched their names in rock history by becoming an anthem of the 70's counter culture, Michael Brewer and Tom Shipley were by no means a one trick pony. In all, the duo landed 3 singles on the Billboard charts and had the pleasure of working with such notables as Mike Bloomfield, Leon Russell, Jimmy Messina, and the late Jerry Garcia.
Constantly touring, Brewer & Shipley could be found performing in such notable venues as Carnegie Hall, The Bottom Line, The Troubadour, The Roxy, Keil Opera House, and Arrowhead Stadium. Because of their broad appeal, they became a favored support act for major tours, sharing the stage with a diverse list of artists, including: Elton John, The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, Electric Light Orchestra, Jethro Tull, Humble Pie, Ted Nugent and Black Sabbath among others.
In recent years, the duo has witnessed rejuvenated interest in their music, beginning with BMG's purchase of their catalog and subsequent reissue of the critically acclaimed "Tarkio" release. This was soon followed by the inclusion of "One Toke Over The Line" on the "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" Limited Edition 25th Anniversary CD on (Jimmy Buffett's) Margaritaville Records, and later on the "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" motion picture soundtrack (Geffen Records). In addition, the duo was invited to contribute guest vocals on their trademark song for the fall 98 release of "Hempilation II" (Capricorn Records).
Brewer & Shipley continue to tour and record regularly, having released 2 albums since reuniting, "Shanghai" (1993) and "Heartland" (1997). Regarding Brewer & Shipley, Ron Sylvester (The Branson Note) wrote, "An actual group from the 70s still capable of making vital music in the 90s ... For a duo best remembered as 70s folkies, this is a solid blast into the present ... undeniable proof these guys can still make evocative music."
